Finding My Rhythm (and My Next Cup of Coffee)

This weekend I packed a small bag — (a bit too much) yarn, my sketchbook, and my camera — and drove off to spend a few quiet days with a dear friend. No plans, no deadlines. Just time to breathe, talk, and knit without rushing.

A person sitting cross-legged in light patterned pyjamas, holding a warm cup of coffee with foam on top — a quiet, slow morning moment.Somewhere between the first cup of morning coffee and the steady rhythm of the needles, I felt something I hadn’t in a while — the simple joy of creating, just because I want to.

A weekend to unwind

It’s been a long time since I allowed myself to simply play.
To knit without a goal, test ideas without needing to finish anything, and let the yarn decide what it wants to become.

The cabin was quiet, the coffee warm in my hands, and I could feel myself settling back into the rhythm that started this whole journey — one stitch, one thought, one still morning at a time.

Lately, my pace has shifted a little. Everything moves slower — in a good way.
I’ve stopped trying to keep up with what’s happening around me (not that I ever really did), and started focusing on the feeling behind each design instead.

During the weekend, I worked on a few new ideas for spring and summer — lighter yarns, airy textures, and pieces that breathe with the season.
It might feel a bit early to think about summer knits, but it was exactly what I wanted to do.
Maybe because I’m finally a little ahead, or maybe because autumn has arrived and I’m longing for lightness again. Or simply because the process — planning, testing, unraveling, and starting over — feels like home.

There’s something special about stopping the chase and starting to listen — to your own ideas, your own pace.
I still get inspired by trends, of course, but more and more I feel drawn to designing what I want to wear, not what’s expected.
It feels more honest, more grounded — like the quiet sound of needles on a still afternoon.

This way of working fits where I am right now. A little slower, but much more me.

A quiet connection

When I came home and unpacked my yarn and swatches, I thought about how much this process mirrors life itself — a mix of stillness and movement, of trial and warmth.
Right now, I’m working on a lighter version of the Coffee Sweater, which in many ways reflects this season: familiar, yet with a breath of something new.
Maybe that’s how creativity really works — not by rushing ahead, but by slowly returning to what we love, discovering new sides of it along the way.

Here’s to more slow mornings. More quiet stitches.
More moments where we find our own rhythm — one cup of coffee at a time.
When life allows it.

Warmly,
Martine
